Trauma Therapy Chula Vista, CA
You find yourself alone with your thoughts struggling to escape your memories from the past. You can’t seem to shake that one memory that haunts you and the anger, distress, or pain you feel each time it comes to mind. No matter what you try, nothing seems to help.
You’re stressed, anxious and depressed. Sometimes you can’t stop the tears from streaming down your face. You feel like no one cares about you or understands what you’re going through. There’s this unspoken pressure to just “get over it” and “move on” because it’s in the past. You say to yourself, “why can’t I just feel better already? Everyone else seems to have it together. What’s wrong with me?”
You feel overwhelmed by your anxiety at times; sometimes even to the point of having a panic attack. It can come out of nowhere and you don’t understand what brought it on or how to make yourself feel better. You feel helpless and fragile and like your emotions are all over the place. You long for peace and a greater sense of control over your mind, memories and emotions. You just want to feel better.
Therapy for Adults Survivors of Childhood Trauma
I help adults heal from childhood wounds by educating you on how trauma affects the whole person and teaching you effective coping skills to heal and move forward.
My clients experience change over time in therapy not just in their emotions, but holistically, through the mind, body and soul. Together we’ll focus on what brought you into therapy and identify what your goals are. Next we’ll work to uncover what’s contributing to your distress. Rather than considering what’s wrong with you, I ask the question “what happened to you?” that got you to this point. Lastly, we’ll work on what you can do to overcome your challenges. I like to empower my clients with a range of coping skills you can have in your “tool belt” that are readily available whenever you need them so you can be confident that you’re able to start feeling better and finally experience wholeness in your life!
My approach to therapy is person-centered. If you’re not ready to dive right in, I’ll slow things down and take it at your pace. I’m not here to rush your process or push you into talking about something that you’re not ready to open up about. I have creative ways of helping you learn how to cope with the after effects of trauma and how it’s affecting you in real time. I may gently nudge or challenge you at times, however your feedback is vitally important to me throughout the process! With therapy you can take your life back and recapture the peace and joy that you’ve been longing for.
